My Story
Hello There. I'm Nina and I'm the passionate maker and face of Just Plain Charming.
Everything you will see here, from bold and bright silver earrings to small wonky rustic pots, is lovingly handmade by me in my home studio or at The Clay Shed in Bristol.

The JPC Journey

I've been running Just Plain Charming in all it's many forms since 2014, for most of this time as a side hustle around other career pathways. In these latter years I've being fortunate to be able to dedicate more time to creating and am beginning to develop the full potential of what Just Plain Charming could become.
My journey started way back before 2014 though starting off making jewellery as a hobby. Creating and making things with my own hands has always brought me joy. I am a true believer that you can never really have enough hobbies. If it's a craft I've probably tried it and my home to this day is filled with things I've made from hobbies long forgotten.
However jewellery always seemed to stick with me and was something I love to evolve. I started with simple beaded work, charms and low cost items. Mostly these were gifts with some small sales to friends and family. Eventually moving to selling in small local markets. My drive for skill development over the years eventually led me to the world of metal work. Becoming a silversmith is where my love for making jewellery really began to shine. It provides so many creative avenues to explore, and also enables me to satisfy a new hobby... becoming a hoarder of gemstones!

Not only do I currently craft beautiful silver pieces incorporating all of my favourite gemstones but i'm looking to see where I could take this next and looking into options with gold as well as different techniques to ever evolve my skills.
Just in case I hadn't enough to do i'm also currently exploring the world of ceramics after innocently taking a taster course back in 2022. I was hooked with the art form and thus you'll start to see ceramic pieces featured as I establish my skills there too.

Where are you based?
I live and work on the outskirts of Bristol in a village called Winterbourne with my husband. This houses my little home studio for jewellery design and making. I currently keep the messy clay business outside the home (which my husband is certainly thankful for) and make my ceramic pieces at the Clay Shed in Bristol. I infrequently attend markets and so most of my work is performed online, this means that I not only ship across the UK but all around the world and knowing my work is located across the globe is such a treat.

What is my Inspiration?

The joy of seeing my work find happy homes around the world fuels my passion. Every single order is deeply appreciated, and it motivates me to keep creating unique pieces. Inspiration is also taken from a variety of sources, from nature, shapes and patterns from the wider world,
I also do a lot of work through custom orders so some of the inspiration is from you guys, providing the starting flame for me to design and I feel so privileged to make your ideas a reality.
What can you expect from my work?

I won't ever profess to having one style and expect my creativity to take me in a variety of directions as I evolve. However, I mostly specialise in earrings and small pendants utilising oxidised silver and rustic designs. Often featuring bold gemstones like the beautiful blues and greens of turquoise and or the bold rainbow colours of surfite so you can expect those to feature often in my work.

I also believe everyone deserves something shiny and bright in their lives. That's why I strive to make my creations accessible, offering a range of pieces to suit all budgets. Whether you're searching for a thoughtful gift or a special treat for yourself, I'm certain there will be something here for you.

Are your creations sustainable?

Sustainability is key for me at Just Plain Charming. I use recycled silver in all my creations this includes all the chains and findings and use reputable sellers to buy from. Selected stones have to be located from America and other areas from the globe but I ensure I don't place orders frequently and place bigger when I do to minimise shipping requirements.
My packaging for both jewellery and ceramics are also and either made from recycled materials and/or recyclable too.
I'm also trying to find ways to be more sustainable with ceramics as I grow that skill. So far sharing kiln firings, having green energy, reclaiming my clays and excess glaze are all in my practices.
